Explore the ProjectSri Lanka's First Commercial Sea Cucumber Hatchery
A USD 3.2 million integrated hatchery and sea pen operation in Thaliyady, Jaffna — producing 2 million juveniles per year with projected annual revenue exceeding USD 3 million at full capacity.
Proven Technology
Licensed hatchery technology from Indian Ocean Trepang (IOT), Madagascar — 14 years of commercial-scale Holothuria scabra production. Full technology transfer including broodstock management, larval rearing, and nursery protocols.
Government Support
Fully endorsed by NAQDA (National Aquaculture Development Authority) with 250 acres of designated coastline in Ariyalai, Jaffna. BOI Section 17 approval and Fisheries Ministry backing at the highest levels.
Dual Revenue Streams
Premium dried trepang (beche-de-mer) exported to Singapore and Hong Kong at USD 100–150/kg wholesale. Secondary revenue from juvenile sales to local sea pen farmers at LKR 100 per piece — creating a full value chain.
Zero-Feed, Solar-Powered
Sea cucumbers are detritivores — zero feed cost throughout the entire grow-out cycle. Solar-powered hatchery operations reduce energy costs and align with sustainable aquaculture principles.
